Harun al-Rashid (Arabic: هَارُون الرَشِيد, Aaron the Just) was the fifth Abbasid Caliph, who ruled from 786 to 809. His wife was Zubaydah. His rule took place at the peak of the Islamic Golden Age, a time of great scientific and artistic prosperity. However, his actions directly contributed to the eventual fall of the Abbasid caliphate.
He appears in many stories of The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, often alongside his vizier Jafar.
